All ages can enjoy Bookworm Adventures, a spelling-based adventure game. This game puts you in the role of Lex, a humble bookworm who goes on a quest through his library. Lex will encounter and battle a variety of opponents during his adventure, including mythological creatures and characters from classic novels.
Combat in Bookworm Adventures revolves around the deadliest of fighting arts: spelling! Letter tiles are arranged in a grid to begin each fight. With Lex, words are spelled out from the available tiles; the longer the word, the greater the damage. Enemies don't bother with such niceties; they simply attack and damage Lex. There are even some players who destroy tiles, infect them with viruses, or "lock" them so they can't be used.
Special tiles and items add more complications. There are special tiles that have additional abilities such as decreasing enemy damage, healing Lex, and automatically doing damage every turn. These gem tiles can be earned by crafting particularly impressive words. Other special effects come from the items Lex earns during his quest; these can increase Lex's health, reduce his damage or cause special effects. When Lex spells the name of a metal such as "TIN" or "BRONZE," the powerful Hand of Hercules does more damage. Potions heal Lex, power up his attacks, or remove harmful conditions.
Additionally, you will compete in minigames that test your memory, vocabulary, and knowledge throughout the game. Gain bonus gems and potions for your quest if you succeed in these. When you progress through the world of books, you'll gradually unlock new minigames that you can return to for a short break.
